Oh Scrap! Blog Hop

Welcome to the next stop of the “Oh, Scrap!” blog hop and giveaway to Celebrate the release of Lissa’s new book.

Pg72_Kismet

I am both honored and excited to be a part of this group of amazing quilters.  I have been friends with  Lissa since 1992 when I moved to Texas.  She was the manager  “The Old Craft Store” a quilt store outside of Dallas.  They were having a bus trip to Houston for the quilt show ( I had no Idea how big a show it was)  I signed up. I did not know anyone on the bus since I was new to the state.  Lissa invited me to share a room with her and have been friends ever since.

I love scrap quilts.  Lissa’s new book is full beautiful photographs and great instructions for all the scrappy quilts. It was impossible for me  to pick  just one as my favorite.

Pg78_Firecrackers

If I had to pick  the first one I want to make it would be “Firecraker.”  I love patriotic quilts. I have been looking at my red, white, and blue fabrics to make this quilt.  This quilt could be easily be made  a variety colors.  You could also use layer cakes and Cake Mix recipe #3 to help make all the half square triangles.  I have a big basket of left over half square triangles that I may combine for a real scrappy look.

Pg64_StairSteps

“Stair Steps” is another one of my favorites.  I love all the color and the differant patterns you see in the quilt.  Everytime I look at it I notice something new.

Lissa and I don’t get to see each other very much since I don’t live in Texas anymore, but I did get to see her at Quilt-Con were she had a book signing.  I bought two books. One for me and one for my niece who is enjoying  sewing and quilting.

I hope you enjoy the book.  For a change to win and E-Book leave a comment and tell me your favorite quilt block to make and I will draw a winner 10pm (Mountain time) On Friday.  I will be at the shop we are having a night UFO.

  1. I agree I like the FireCracker and Stair Steps quilts. Favorite block over all, probably too many. Probably nine patch or 8 patch stars. Blocks I can make from 2 1/2 inch strips.

  2. All the quilts in Lissa’s book are beautiful–I may have enough scraps to make them all!
Hard to pick a favorite block-churn dash comes to mind first.
    Thanks!

  3. I love the log cabin block for scrappy quilts, as it uses different sizes of scraps and you can vary the colours in so many ways.

  4. My favorite block to make is the half square triangle! I’ve never made a scrappy quilt but certainly have enough scraps to make one! I just found your blog and can’t wait to follow along as you organize your stash. Thanks for a chance to win this book.

  5. Probably my favorite block is a log cabin because it is so versatile. I have made many versions of this block. I’d guess I’ve made about a dozen quilts with some form of log cabins. I’m a big fan of scrappy quilts and this book looks wonderful!

  6. I love star blocks, but for using up scraps I tend to turn to string blocks. Thanks for the giveaway!

  7. I like the Surrounded block in this book! It’s a very different block but uses scraps; I’m all for that!

  8. There isn’t a star block that I do not love – Ohio star, Variable Star, etc. I love them all! Thanks for a great giveaway!

  9. My favorite blocks to make are 4 patch or 9 patch; you can use them in so many different ways! However, I like to make just about any quilt block. Can’t wait to see the book and see if I find a new favorite!

  10. I am a beginner quilter and haven’t learned to make many blocks, but I love the half square triangle because it can make many different blocks and it is easy to make.

  11. A favorite?! What a difficult question to answer! I guess log cabin is my first answer — followed by many:-)

  12. Whatever block I am working on at the time is my favorite. This looks like an awesome book and I think I need it in my quilt book library. Thank you for a chance to win a copy.

  13. I don’t have a favorite block, but if I did it might be pinwheels. Or Log Cabins. Or Feathered Stars…..

My favorite quilt in the book so far is the blazing star quilt in peaches and pinks..wow
