Happy New Year, here in Denver 2019 came in on a cold, snowy night. Everything is pretty outside all covered in white snow. It is a perfect day for snow since most people will be staying home and the sun will melt everything in the next couple of days.
We have some fun new classes, a block exchange, and quilt challenge.
J. Michelle Watts introduced a new pattern at Quilt Market in Houston. “Have a Heart” is a great way to express your love for someone special. The large quilt is a jellyroll friendly. The small quilt would make a great wall hanging or baby quilt that is made with 1 ½” strips.
Michelle also has a pattern I liked “Whirlwind” a unique circular design was inspired by a Native American woven basket design. It needs a 9-degree ruler to get the circular effect.
A good friend and local quilt designer Kate Colleran “Seams Like A Dream” patterns will be teaching a new class using her new pattern “ Carry This” a fun crossbody bag with two outside pockets and one inside pocket, with a braid accent.
JaNelle will be teaching the “Etui Box” Women in the 18th century used the box to hold tools for domestic life. Today the box is a fun way to keep your needlework tools altogether. JaNelle will also be teaching our Absolute Beginners Class, and Machine Quilting 101 class.
Zenith will be teaching a class in mastering needlework. She has desingned her own pattens/kits or you can work on any wool project you prefer.
These are just a sample of the classes we are offering this session.
“Shattered our new Buck a Block will also start in January. Each month you make 10 blocks, in the same colorway. The blocks are put together to create a row. There are five rows in the original pattern. We will have three more rows available for those who would like to make it bigger.
I designed our Saturday Sampler “Greydations” A sampler quilt with a gradation of grey to black and burst of color in each block. The Blocks finish at 16 inches. And the quilt measures 74” x 90.”
We will have a 2-inched finished half square triangle exchange. We will exchange in groups of 20. You can make as many sets of 20 as you want. The half square triangle is due in the shop by Feb 3rd. If you are not local but would like to participate you all you have to do is mail your HST to the shop and include return postage. The HST will be ready to be picked up on the 10th. All the HST will be mailed out on the 11th. There will be more on information on how to make the HST on the blog next week.
Now that you have a collection of half square triangles I challenge you to make a quilt with them. You can make anything from a wall hanging to a Queen size quilt. The quilt tops are due in the shop by May 5th. We will display the quilts, and people can vote for there favorites in the store and on this blog.
I hope you will join us to challenge yourself and enjoy yourself. Remember to “Take Time to Smell the Flowers.” Be the reason someone smiles today.
