Fast and easy holiday projects

The 4th of July is just around the corner, are you looking for some fast patriotic projects for gifts or yourself? I may be able to help. Either of the projects can be made in an afternoon.

“Me and My Sister Designs” have an adorable, fast, and easy pattern “A Tisket a Tasket 2 Fat Quarter Basket.” All you need is two fat quarters. One fat quarter for the basket and lining, the other fat quarter for the ties I used three fabrics, so the lining of the basket was different than the outside. The baskets make perfect housewarming gifts.

I designed a patriot table runner using 5″ charm squares and a background fabric. The runner has the blocks and finished at 46″ x 16″. You can easily make it larger by adding more blocks. First, make 4 patches of your charm squares. I used red and blue charm squares and a white background for the patriotic look.

step 1
You four patch should measure 9 ½” Cut (3) 9 ½” squares of your background fabric. If your square has a different measurement cut out the background the size of your 4 patches.Place your background square and your 4 patch right sides together and sew along the outsides of the square with a ¼” seam allowance.

Next, you will be cutting your squares twice on the diagonal. (TIP you will be working with exposed bias, so spray starch your squares before you cut them.) You will have four blocks from each set of 4 patches. Press and square up your squares. My blocks measured 6 ¼” square.

Cut your sashing pieces 2″ x 6 ¼” you will need four per block. Mix and match the blocks from all the blocks to give you a variety. Sew a sashing in between to blocks for the top and bottom of the squares. Sew two sashing pieces to a 2″ square (I used two charm squares and cut squares from them one red and one blue.) Put your blocks together in rows like you would a nine patch.

Add sashing in between the blocks. Because of the exposed bias, I added a 2 Inch border around the runner.P runner

This table runner as endless possibilities. How about a Halloween theme or a fall design. These can also be made into wall hangings or quilts. Let your imagination go wild.
